Description

Short Description

Clear the couch for Co-op Snake. Scales of Silence is a local party game where length is your life: up to 8 players on one shared screen for PvP battles, plus a 2-player co-op campaign. Shrink your friends before they shrink you.

Long Description

Scales of Silence is an arcade action game that reimagines classic Snake as a local multiplayer party game. Up to 8 players share one screen in PvP battles, while the campaign can be played solo or in 2-player local co-op. The game is designed for couch play, with no online requirement, no accounts, no split-screen boxes, and support for flexible input setups including gamepads and keyboard layouts.

The game's central idea is the Shrink Mechanic: length is the player's life. Collisions do not instantly eliminate a snake. Instead, each hit removes part of its tail. Longer snakes can absorb more damage and control more space, while shorter snakes are harder to trap and can still recover through careful movement. Takedowns award +3 points, so matches revolve around pressure, positioning, survival, and gradually wearing opponents down.

Local multiplayer includes four battle modes: Score Battle, Timed Match, Snake Royale, and Endless Classic. Players can customize matches with adjustable speed, scalable CPU difficulty, teams or free-for-all rules, food spawn settings, and custom nameplates. Up to 8 gamepads are supported, keyboard play can be split across multiple layouts, and two players can share a single gamepad. See-through snake shaders and visible nameplates help keep the action readable when the screen fills with players.

The campaign features 500 levels across 10 story arcs, 10 biomes, and 20 playable serpents. Each arc follows a different serpent and ends with a boss battle. Defeated bosses become playable characters, expanding the roster for both campaign and multiplayer. Every serpent has fixed stats for speed, acceleration, starting length, and growth rate, giving the roster distinct play styles: some snakes control space with size, some rely on speed, and others start small but become dangerous as they grow.

The story follows an ancient conflict between two serpent factions. The Order seeks unity, while The Fangs choose separation. As the war spreads, portals tear open at nightfall and The Writhing spills through: a living mass of shadow serpents tied to the mystery beneath the conflict. The game's 10 biomes also reshape the rules from level to level: forests crowd the board and limit sightlines, badlands and deserts make food scarce, swamps poison most food, beaches keep The Writhing away, and volcanoes stay in permanent darkness.

Scales of Silence is developed by Aggro Games, a solo indie studio led by Cinder. The game is planned as a one-time purchase with no microtransactions, full offline play, demo save transfer, and free content expansions planned after launch.

About the Game

The Shrink Mechanic

Length is your life. Every hit costs you tail instead of knocking you out instantly. Stay longer than your opponent, grind them down to nothing, and earn +3 points per takedown. Longer snakes can absorb more punishment; shorter snakes are faster, harder to corner, and dangerous in the right hands. It keeps players active, makes eliminations readable, and turns every chase into a risk-reward decision.

Local Multiplayer

Up to 8 players share one screen with no accounts, no setup, no online requirement, and no split-screen boxes. Plug in up to 8 controllers, split the keyboard four ways (WASD, IJKL, Arrows, Numpad), or cram two players onto a single gamepad. Mix and match so nobody sits out. Everyone joins by pressing UP, custom nameplates help everyone follow the chaos, and a see-through shader keeps every snake visible when the action gets tangled.

Four battle modes support different ways to play: Score Battle, Timed Match, Snake Royale, and Endless Classic. Match settings include speed, scalable CPU difficulty, teams or free-for-all, food spawn quantities up to Foodpocalypse, and custom nameplates. Your house, your rules.

Campaign

The campaign can be played solo or in 2-player local co-op, with 500 levels across 10 protagonist arcs. Each arc follows a different serpent and ends with a boss battle. Beat them and they join the playable roster with unique stats you can carry into every mode. The story follows an ancient war between The Order, who seek unity, and The Fangs, who choose separation. Where the war runs deepest, portals tear open at nightfall and a living darkness called The Writhing spills through.

Biomes

Ten biomes rotate across the campaign, each changing how you play. Plains offer open ground and fair fights. Forests overflow with food but choke your sightlines. Highlands and Rivers split the board with peaks and waterways that force tight decisions. Badlands, Deserts, and Snowlands starve you out, turning every apple into a contested resource. Swamps poison most food. Beaches hold The Writhing back entirely. Volcanoes are the opposite: permanent darkness, portals active from the first second, and no safe ground anywhere.

Characters

Twenty playable serpents have fixed stats for speed, acceleration, starting length, and growth rate. Tanks wall off whole sections of the board. Speed Demons close gaps before you have finished planning. Growers start tiny and snowball into terrors if left unchecked. Half the roster is available from day one; the rest appear as bosses across the campaign. CPU opponents follow distinct behavioral patterns, so what looks like chaos at first becomes a puzzle players can learn to read and exploit.

About the Developer

The developer behind Aggro Games

Scales of Silence is built entirely by one developer under the name Cinder. Every mechanic, character, line of dialogue, and pixel of UI comes from a single pair of hands.

It started 25 years ago, editing snake on a school computer when the whole room lost it over a game nobody expected more from. That spark led to a career in games, and eventually years working on titles at large studios where revenue came before fun. After the massive 2024 industry layoffs, rather than take another live service role, going independent was the only path that made sense: one developer, no compromises, no safety net.

Aggro Games was founded on a simple belief: games should be made for the players. No loot boxes, no psychological tricks, no hidden costs. Player feedback shapes everything. One purchase, everything included.
