Description
Short Description
Scales of Silence is a story-driven take on the classic snake game, with a 500-level campaign, 20 playable serpents, and 4 battle modes supporting 8-player local co-op and PvP on a single screen.
Long Description
Scales of Silence takes the game everyone played as a kid and turns it into something nobody expected. Two ancient factions of serpents wage war across a world of plains, peaks, rivers, and fire while a living darkness called The Writhing feeds on the conflict. A 500-level campaign follows 20 serpents across ten story arcs, each with their own perspective on the war and stats that change how the game plays. Boss fights unlock new characters for every game mode. Ten biomes reshape the rules from level to level: forests choke your sightlines, swamps poison the food supply, and volcanoes plunge the board into permanent darkness. The core innovation is the Shrink Mechanic: collisions don't kill you, they shrink you. Your length is your health. Longer snakes survive more hits while shorter snakes are faster and harder to corner. Then there's the couch multiplayer, where up to 8 players share one screen with four battle modes, customizable match settings, and an input system that supports a full lobby from a single keyboard and two controllers. One purchase, everything included, zero microtransactions, with free content expansions planned.

About the Game
The Shrink Mechanic
The central innovation in Scales of Silence. On collision, snakes shrink from the tail instead of dying instantly. Length functions as a health bar: longer snakes survive more hits, shorter snakes move faster and are harder to corner. Hunting someone down means committing to staying longer than your target and pressuring them until there's nothing left. When you eliminate an opponent, you earn +3 points. Every encounter is a decision, not a coin flip.
Campaign
500 levels across 10 protagonist arcs, each following a different serpent with their own perspective on an ancient war between two factions: the Order, who seek unity, and the Fangs, who believe only separation brings survival. Between them, a living darkness called The Writhing tears through the world, growing stronger with every battle. The story unfolds through illustrated dialogue scenes between levels. Each arc culminates in a boss battle. Defeat a boss and they join your playable roster with unique stats you carry into every game mode.
Biomes
Ten biomes rotate across the campaign, each changing how you play. Plains offer open ground and full visibility. Forests overflow with food but choke your sightlines. Highlands and Rivers split the board with peaks and waterways. Badlands, Deserts, and Snowlands starve you out with reduced food spawns. Swamps poison the food supply, replacing most apples with hazards. Beaches hold The Writhing back entirely with salt water. Volcanoes are the opposite: permanent darkness, portals active from the first second, no safe ground anywhere.
Characters
Twenty playable serpents with fixed stats for speed, acceleration, starting length, and growth rate. Five archetypes define each snake's playstyle: Tank, Speed Demon, Quick Starter, Grower, and Balanced. Computer opponents follow four distinct behavioral patterns (food-focused, wandering, blocking, chasing), and each character has a fixed assigned behavior that experienced players can learn to read and exploit. Half the roster is available from the start; the rest are unlocked by beating campaign bosses.
Local Multiplayer
Up to 8 players on one shared screen with no split-screen and no online requirement. A see-through shader keeps every snake visible no matter how tangled the action gets. A single keyboard splits into 4 independent control zones (WASD, Arrows, IJKL, Numpad), and each gamepad supports 2 players using the left and right sticks. A full 8-player lobby can run on one keyboard and two controllers. Four battle modes: Score Battle, Timed Match, Snake Royale, and Endless. Match settings include speed, CPU opponents with scalable difficulty, teams or free-for-all, and food spawn quantities up to Foodpocalypse.
About the Developer

Scales of Silence is built entirely by one developer under the name Cinder. Every mechanic, character, line of dialogue, and pixel of UI comes from a single pair of hands.
It started 25 years ago, editing snake on a school computer when the whole room lost it over a game nobody expected more from. That spark led to a career in games, and eventually years working on titles at large studios where revenue came before fun. After the massive 2024 industry layoffs, rather than take another live service role, going independent was the only path that made sense: one developer, no compromises, no safety net.
Aggro Games was founded on a simple belief: games should be made for the players. No loot boxes, no psychological tricks, no hidden costs. Player feedback shapes everything. One purchase, everything included.
